1.86GHz 533 2M processor in an R51

#1 Post by Smokestoomuch » Thu Dec 13, 2012 4:13 am

I have questions...

I placed a 1.86 GHz 533 2M chip in an R51 board. It does work but it's only showing up in the bios as a 1.4 GHz chip.

#1) Is the chip defective or did the chip dumb down because the R51 can't do the 533 part.
#2) Is there any way to overclock it to spec?
#3) What Thinkpad machines used 533 chips?

Messing about with underclocking/overclocking/pinmods might get it to run, but the R51 is made with FSB 400.

T43/R52/X41 machines run with FSB 533.

You need a pinmod on that chip. Nothing else will get it up to speed AFAIK.

Apart from what RBS stated above, Z60m and Z60t were also using 533 MHz Dothan-core CPUs.
