New Z61t Driving Me Nuts

#1 Post by jronald » Wed Dec 26, 2012 8:08 pm

OK this [censored] thing is driving me crazy:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=108031
Drop in a hard drive, tried several, and the windoze set up desk that I have used a number of times, cant see the HDD. Wont load the OS at all.

Drop in the uBuntu set up disk, loads from scratch and loads from Live DVD. Heck Im posting on it now!!

Any ideas? What gives?

Ron

If you're trying to load XP, the SATA mode in BIOS needs to be set as "compatibility" and not "AHCI" ...

I don't think so. IIRC XP didn't support AHCI out of the box. Naturally Linux does.

No.

Even newer version of Windows (Vista/W7/W8) don't have this problem because the AHCI drivers are built into them...

You need to download AHCI drivers from Intel's site first, otherwise you'll get BSOD.

FYI: George is particularly fond of VERY rare, single malt Scotch whisky, such as is made by the likes of Glenfarclas, Laphroaig etc...
