Is IBM ThinkPad R60 USB bootable?

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Jan 19, 2013 6:32 pm

I have a IBM ThinkPad R60 and has Windows XP Pro on it with a SATA 16GB SSD in it. I was wanting to try out my new Windows 8 and was thinking of buying a 32GB USB mini Flash Drive to install Windows 8 on. So is the R60 USB bootable?

Yes, it is bootable via US. I've done it many times. You might find 16GB a bit limiting if you're planning on installing anything besides Windows.

I have a USB 3.0 External WD 1TB HDD that has all my games installed on it. I just keep on my programs on it too.

So I got a 32GB Flash Drive for my IBM ThinkCentre M51 so I can try out Windows 8. My CD drive havn't been wanting to read certin DVD discs and I put in Windows XP in the other drive. It comes up and reads the flash drive and asks to format, So I format to NTFS. After that it installs all the windows XP drivers and what not and restarts and I get this error:
a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Not sure whats wrong now. like I said Im doing this on my ThinkCentre M51 not the R60.

Flash drives are recognized as a removable disk.
Windows will not boot from such a drive.
If you can trick it to act like a fixed drive, then it will work.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
