Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Looks like an IBM prototype (could be a Z62m as per clearplate) with the wrong Lenovo T-series badges on lid + palmrest.
The label on the bottom is also an oddity.

It is the real deal.

That machine originated from a forum member who has quite a collection of prototypes from what I'm to understand, at a substantially higher price a couple of years ago.

Specs are a non-starter for me personally, though.

At that price it would be a nice collector item, I doubt it will stay at that price though...

Or you could use BIN and walk away with having paid $275 or so altogether...

As previously stated, I'm not in the race so have fun with it...or don't...

I do agree the specs are rather uninteresting to make it a computer worth using. I do really like the idea that it's a prototype however... seems like a really cool thing to have. I'd like to upgrade the CPU... but this is the sort of thing you'd want to keep all original I imagine.

I also looked at the seller's history, and it turns out he's sold a similar unit for ~$90.

There's one *major* caveat with ThinkPad prototypes - one is usually stuck with whatever BIOS is loaded, and it's most often of 0.9 variety...

Some of us have learned the hard way what happens if one tries to force a "regular" BIOS...of course, YMMV...

On that basis, at least for me, I don't think it's worth having. I kinda like to actually use my Thinkpads, even for school. I'm pretty determined to get them out there-I've even lugged my G41 to class a couple of times.

I'd treat this like a novelty Thinkpad... I wouldn't fetch it out very often, because it's a prototype, I wouldn't want it to get trashed. On top of the funky BIOS and other limitations, and inability to upgrade(or, preference not to), and some parts(planar) may be one-of-a-kind, I don't think I'd pay that much for this machine.

Doesn't mean I'd mind having it at all though. :)

ah yea that's the one I saw. The one on now does have slightly better specs, but he's selling this one for a lot more. :|
