z61T

#1 Post by jronald » Wed Mar 06, 2013 10:58 am

I was able to pick up a pair of pretty generic 61T's. My question is about the video camera (such as it is) What do I need to look for on the boards to see if they will accept the addition of the camera? Before I start looking for bezels and other things, I need to confirm it will actually work.
Hopefully these are like the T30 touch pads, most if not all Mobos would accept, just plug and install the drivers.

Thanks
Ron

If you mean you're looking to take a Z61T that didn't have the webcam option fitted, and find the webcam part and install it yourself... yes, I believe it's possible. Yes, you will need to find the inside screen bezel that has the bit for the webcam to poke out, and I'm mostly certain the webcam is simply wired around the screen or behind it, in a similar fashion as the wires running to the Wi-Fi antennas in the screen. I might be mistaken, it could be wired instead to the LCD cable or inverter(which would make little sense).

But at the very least, you will need the webcam part, and the bezel it fits in. I'm sure any Z61T motherboard will allow you to plug it in.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

The camera module is attached to the LCD cable. Not all cables have the camera connector. You will need either a cable which has one, or to solder the connector to an existing cable.

You will also need the front bezel to accommodate the camera.

However, as far as system boards go - all will accept the camera.
