R52 and Access IBM Not Updating Question

#1 Post by LeoB » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:20 am

Have an OLD R52 that still works quite well (except for a wonky CD drive). Recently I got it out and updated Windows and the anti-virus just to have a spare in case anything happened to my W520. It's a model 1849 running XP.

When I press the blue Access IBM button it goes into Access IBM (not ThinkVantage), just like it always did. But when I try and update drivers, it tries to go to a website www.pc.ibm.com that no longer works.

I looked on the Lenovo website and couldn't see anything about updating Access IBM to ThinkVantage, and I don't really want to start updating drivers without knowing what I'm doing.

Does anybody know if Lenovo has quit supporting Access IBM and the R-series?

I believe it is registered to a key in the registry , I can't remember what I used but I mapped mine to be a lock key
IBM Thinkpad A31 2.0GHz Pentium 4, 768MB RAM, 40GB HDD and a ATI 7500 16MB shimmed
Lenovo T420 4236-PA8: WiFi card replaced with a Broadcom one (fixes most DPC latency), 64GB Crucial M4 SSD added as OS drive, original HDD in a DVD to HDD caddy.

All drivers have been relocated to Lenovo servers.
Those old IBM links are now dead.
You need to install the latest SystemUpdate for XP: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-66956
