Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a loose SouthBridge chip, or a bad keyboard connector on the motherboard.

Start the machine with the keyboard lifted but still attached, and when it freezes press gently on the big square chip under the wireless card (if you have one) with Intel logo. If the freezing goes away, you've found the culprit.

In either case, it seems to me that you'll be shopping for a replacement motherboard, or a new laptop altogether.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply i tried putting presure on the chip but didnt make a difference it seems to work fine with a usb keyboard and mouse so it looks like the motherboard proberly not worth fixing i think i will put it up on ebay as is thanks.

i have no went into bios and tried disabling the track point and everything seems to work ok apart from the trackpoint obviosly
so i am now thinking it needs a new keyboard !! :(
