hi can anyone help i have a thinpad r5e the original problem was i had to disconect the keyboard and use a usb keyboar & mouse for it to boot but after messing around i have found that if disable the trackpoint in the bios it boots up fine but obviosly i still have to use a usb mouse and i cant figure out if its a motherboard problem or a keyboard roblem its very puzling ???

Sounds more like a keyboard problem (water damage?).
If/when you get another one, please note that the 14.1" and 15" laptops of that series use different keyboards, even though they look the same!
14.1" keyboards have 4 studs for mounting screws, 15" have only 3 studs in different places.
