R52 with SATA-Mod, SSD and Error 200 Fixed Disk Failure 7

#1 Post by tk921617 » Sat Aug 10, 2013 9:52 am

Hi everybody,

I had a SATA-Mod done to my R52 (1846-4CG) and tried to install a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Unfortunately, this was only partly succesful. Sometimes the system boots, I could even install Windows 7. But quite a few times "Error 200 Fixed Disk Failure 7" shows up when I start the R52. I also installed a "normal" SATA HDD - the R52 booted without any problems, no Error 200.

Does anybody know why Error 200 shows up with the SSD? Is this a compatibility issue, can only certain SSDs be used with a 82801FB?

Thanks for your help!

Tim

Welcome to the forum!

Certain SSDs do not play nice with these SATA-modded units. I couldn't install any OS on OCZ Vertex 2 which works flawlessly in T410.

I've used Crucial C300 with no issues and currently have Intel X25-E in my modded T43p.

Hope this helps.

Any SATA-modded T43/T43p/R52 will have Error 200 if booted without a (or with a bad) SATA drive in the HD bay.
Like George mentioned, OCZ (and Kingston) SSDs are bad news.
It's also quite possible that any newer SSD or HD with SATA III speed does not "go back" far enough to support the only SATA I capable 82801FB chip.
Get an 'older' SATA I or SATA II drive.

I recently installed in the SATA Ultrabay a Fujitsu hard disk SATA MHW2160BH (160GB as you can tell) and removed from the HD bay the original one.

All systems go perfectly.

Now I would like to substitute Fujitsu hd with a Samsung SSD SATA (840 series MZ-7TD120BW, 120GB).

Is there any known issue with that?

I thank you lophiomys (a kind of mouse...) but I don't want to do any modification.

I just want to put in the R52's Ultrabay an SSD Samsung SATA instead of Fujitsu hard disk SATA
who's getting a little warmer (sometimes 46°C or 46/5*9+32= 115F).

I've just read this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94452

but I didn't understand whether T42's Ultrabay is Sata or Pata.
