R52 and Intel 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller

#1 Post by Penultimate » Wed Nov 27, 2013 6:56 pm

Some of you may recall my tale in the T forum about my Thriftshop T43 that had a dead motherboard. Well the ebay-ed R52 is here, I swapped everything over from the T43 into the R52 carcass, and reinstalled XP from some T42 install discs.

Possibly because the discs were intended for a T42 instead of a R52, I was missing 5 drivers.
I got 4 of the 5 working on my own by dowloading them individually from Lenovo.

The one I cannot get working is show as a unk device on "Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller".
I found web references indicating that this was - "Winbond (National Semiconductor) TPM (Trusted Platform Module) Device for Windows 2000, XP, Vista (32bit) - ThinkPad R52, T43/p"

I downloaded 1yza08ww.exe - 383.07 KB, from Lenovo and it unpacked, but whenever I attempt to install the driver from the unk device in device manager (XP) it always locks up my system.
If I attempt to install it through Thinkpad software installer it also always locks up my system so that I have to turn off the computer, turn it back on, and the unk device still remains as before in device manager on the R52.

The R52 is great and everthing seems to work, all other drivers are loaded, and its only this one recalcitrant driver raining on my parade here.. anyone got a idea of why this driver keeps locking up the computer whenever I install it, WHAT this driver even does for me, or other advice? Thanks again!

Try that:
1) Right click 82801
2) Update driver
3) No, not this time -> next
4) Install from a specifin location -> next
5) Don´t search I will choose... -> next
6) From the left box choose Intel and from the right scroll down until you meet this strange 82801FMB.... -> next

If anyone finds this topic in the future, it appears to be a issue with the infrared driver.
The Infrared driver does not have its own individual download on the lenovo drivers page here-
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... MIGR-58931

..and the same problem with the same missing driver continued even after I installed Win7 on this computer.

Win7 however found a infrared driver and installed it as part of the cumulative security updates (took a long time) but now I have infrared functional as well as all drivers installed.
The Winbond TPM driver that refused to install under WindowsXP installed without any trouble in Windows7.

Even with only 1.5 gig ram, these are really great with Win7, so all in all, I would have to say I am glad I ended up failing with the T43 from the thriftshop because this R52 utilized the parts and dvd burner, and is my new favorite at this point.

Now to find my testbed T60/T61!
