R61 CPU upgrade question

#1 Post by Thedaddy » Sun Dec 08, 2013 8:55 pm

I have an R61 (8935-A47) in factory configuration with the Celeron M 540 (1.86GHZ) CPU.
I want to install the T7300 CPU. Is this plug and play? Will a bios upgrade be needed, and more importantly, i have the intel chipset driver installed for the Celeron CPU. Will this chipset driver work for the T7300 CPU? If not, do i have to uninstall the old driver? And where can i get the correct driver? Thanks!

Plug & play, all the way.

No additional drivers/BIOS updates needed.

But DO make sure you clean CPU and fan first, and apply fresh thermal paste (preferably AS5).

RBS: yep, cleaning up the CPU and Video Chip-- and Artic Silver is SOP for anything I pick up these days. The "goodies" are on the way. I also have an R500 and I'd like to run W7 on that one. I ordered two of the T7300 CPUs but on second thought I think the R500 can run a faster (or better) CPU than that.
Thank you!

Indeed.

Any 1066MHz Penryn starting at 8400 and ending at 9900, both P and T ranges, will work just fine in a R500.

It all depends on which power/heat/funds combo one chooses...

Interesting...If I were to retain the "factory" heatsink and fan, what CPU would you go with for all-around general use? I don't game, but I do stream movies.
Thanks!

We currently have a T9400 in the R500F in my sig.

Inexpensive, fast and not too warm. Well-liked here.
