Well, I just learned that the T40-41-42s and R50-51s (of the same size, of course) are compatible, as they are the same generation. The R40, however is previous generation to those, and may not be.
I'm pretty new around here though, so maybe RBS or someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to either correct or affirm that, now that I've bumped your post.

Maintning and upgrading a few aT4x/R5x on the cheap!
They are truck mounted in my landscape company. I have some PCs and Android devices as well.

One way to find out without waiting for the gurus is to google for the datasheets of the R40 and R52's LCD panels. If they have the same connector and signal pin layout then the likelihood of compatibility is much higher.
