IBM r61-7735... a crazy idea

#1 Post by david_thinkpad » Fri Jan 31, 2014 1:19 am

I posted this over at facebook as well. So I will copy and paste here.

Ok, crazy idea on IBM r61 7735 model I have- Since I don't have the "intel turbo memory" installed in the PCI-E slot inside the laptop my thought was, can 2 internal USB ports like these be installed?

Anyone try this? if you have, any luck?

I am very sure it'll fit, but how you'll be able to utilize it will be another story.
You might be able to cram a micro USB Flask stick in there...
There are expansion slots that allow you to use USBs, but you'll have to figure out what expansion slot you have.
I've been wanting to jam something like that onto where the modem or ethernet jack would be.

Electrically it should work - looks like a simple USB hub hooked up to the USB lanes in the miniPCIe connector - but physically it may not fit into the laptop's casing.
