R31 Dies After Inserting Thumb Drive

#1 Post by pfreel » Sat Jun 14, 2014 9:22 am

My R31 was working fine until I inserted a USB thumb drive into the rear USB port. The computer went black and will not restart. No power lights.

Welcome to the forum!

Can you check for any physical damage (e.g. missing plastic spacer in the middle or exposed/bent pins) on that USB port?

Yes, there is a missing plastic spacer. I just removed the battery and was able to start the computer on AC only. I replaced the battery and things seem back to normal.

Thanks

Pat

You can't use that USB port.

Make sure that the pins are not touching each other otherwise the port will short out and the laptop will shut down or freeze.

Good luck.
