If I can use a T4400 processor in a Z61m

#1 Post by Kennynva » Wed Jul 02, 2014 11:02 pm

Hello all..new to this forum...would like to know if I can use a T4400 processor in place of a T2300 one..in a Z61m...Lenovo..?

If not I think a T7200 will work..

I have a problem with Netflix, and it might be the stepping down of the speed of the processor..and I dont know how to leave it a full speed..(and if I can) ...I use this laptop with a power supply and no battery so power is not a issue..thanks..all that respond.

Kenny

OS System is windows Vista...32bit ( would like to use windows7)

Welcome to the forum!

T4400 is a no-go.

T7200 will work very well.

BTW, you should always use the machine with battery installed, otherwise you won't get the CPU to run at full speed.

Happy upgrading.

Really...the battery installed..even though it is bad..will make it work better...
It is installed now...but it shows bad ...and ...welll thats weird...Im updating windows vista...and all of a sudden it's showing o% charge..but, it no longer shows a bad battery...that usually is in with the battery bubble..now is showing 0% but charging..(plugged in,charging) maybe it will go on and charge...

I just got this notebook..from a friend of mine...and I really think it has been sitting around for a while..so I did the factory restore on it..doing all the vista updates now..is that a good idea..or should I leave some out..
The netflix problem, I think is fixed..I was trying to run HD movies..and I dont think this machine will do it..I clicked off the HD box..and it runs perfect then..back in 2006 did they even have Hd..???
Thanks for the processer info..I have a bad mb with that processor on it..thought it might work..64bit though..right..no good..
I think I will find a T7200 some where..that is the fastest right?
THanks for the help

Hi there, also a very welcome from me!

You will need a special hardware revision of the mainboard....so that such a cpu will work, so you first will have to check this out, there will be programs that give you this information..

So first the check out and than....if you are a lucky one...happy upgrading...

and the T7200 gives the best performance for acceptable price.

Please watch my signature, i have a Z61t with mainboard revision three. Putting 4Gb of ram in, 3 gb will run in dual channel mode of the ram supports this, you may install a 64bit os, because the T7200 is 64 bit able.

And just this, too.....the T7600/ T7600G will be the fastest cpu for this kind of thinkpad, but this cpu will be very expensive.

Sincerly,

Hey again!

Why using Vista?

And when, why don't you install everything new, just a clean install of vista, better would be win7 (professional or ultimate), i have a vista home premium on my t61.......if i had a win7 key that time i wouldn't have installed it at all...so far...even a nice linux would be a good choice for an Z61...so think it ower, better twice than only once

If something wouldn't let you access the machine, use a live cd such as partition magic and format the whole drive,....that's all you have to do....

after that you will be able to do an new install and before you gain any driver from lenovo site,...get an good antivir prog, install it, scan whatever will be downloaded, because you not really can trust in the lenovo site, there might be files with malware in it...

Keep tuned :thumbs-UP:

Not in my experience, and I've owned quite a few Z61m units.

A newer - or better yet modded - BIOS will take care of the Core 2 Duo CPU being properly recognized and utilized.

Sorry, it's out of the german forum.....http://thinkwiki.de/Z61, so just watch out the part of the Z61m, you possibly need a special revision of the board, if you have had only Z61m which had been without any problems upgradable, lucky guy,...and the most actual bios provided for this machine....

Nice greetings,

I've been "lucky" at least a dozen times so I'd venture a guess that luck really had nothing to do with it... :D

We will see if it'll be working for the one in this situation, he wrote he would have an T7200 on an died board, so it should be a simple trial and error thing, not more or less.

Good luck getting the T7200 work!

I've checked my machine out, it has had the revision 3 mainboard, everything was fine....the T5600 out, the T7200 in, some good thermal paste.....and more power in.......

So a second time good luck.

PT

About installing windows 7...I would if I had the disk...I have it on other sata drives, that I can install in this laptop..would that work out..I do have xp pro..would that be better..???

Thanks....everyone..

Hi again,

well, not really difficult to handle will be mint, the new version 17 should work well on the z61, another good choice would be ubuntu, there 12.04 LTS or 14.04 LTS, the 12.04 will be supported until april 2017, the 14.04 until 2019..each versions would be available in 32bit and 64bit, if you would build in 4GB of ram, those should be modules able to work in dual channel mode.....and you would have the T7200 installed...chose the 64bit version.

The sound is another state of play, in the german forum there are several threads about, the sound of T60, Z61, T61...is really bad, there is absolutely to get full sound, of just as good sound as the 600x,..T23, A31.....had, only the X61 in the ultrabase has acceptable sound, loud enough and bright enough,....at the z61 you will have to connect an hifi system and use this as receiver.

Hope this was some help.

Nice greetinx,

Pandora

I hooked headphones up to it and it was very loud..so I would say the board is ok...so is it just the quality of the small speakers..or does the amplifier stage going to the speakers have an issue..or is it the way it is..
I can hear the sound but its very low...and Im looking at the speaker slider bar on the taskbar..and it seems that the volume level (looking at the green bar) is not rising up too far on the scale..while it seems the input sound should be pushing that green bar up...like while watching Netflix..or any audio...but it dont..it just stays in the lower 1/4 of the entire scale..is this ok.??

Thanks for being patient with me..

Hi again!

No problem, if you have questions, ask them, therefore is such a forum build.

The sound at the series T6X, it's a matter of the chipset that is used, this has some restriction/ limitations that inhibit copying music....from streams and so on,....this has been somehing music industry and the manufacturer of this machines have established..there is a chance to modify the driver....so that this limitations would be negated. Somewhere in the german thinkpad forum there is a thread with that issue.

The one way is to chose an headphone, the other way is to use the hifi system with the input from the thinkpad.

Kindly,

Pandora
