R61 - Which product code do I need for the correct base

#1 Post by topper » Mon Sep 01, 2014 5:49 am

My trusty R61 is sill going, and i'm trying to keep it that way. The base of the case is cracked in various places, and now has cracked near the corner, making the screen hinge flop about. so i want to get a new base. i've been on ebay and there are different part numbers for R61 bases (42X4626, 42W2527, 42W2525, 42X4610) - how do i determine which one i need?

My product code is 8935-CTO.

Easiest way would be to check the base you have to see what part number is on it. The number is usually stamped on the inside of the base. Or check the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model. Otherwise, just match the base to the screen size you have. The four examples you gave are different screen sizes. They appear to be as follows:

42X4626 = 15.4" wide screen
42W2527 = 14.1" wide screen
42W2525 = 14.1" wide screen
42X4610 = 15.4" wide screen

Also not that some R61, especially R61e models, don't have a slot in the base for a docking port. So make sure you are ordering the correct one is that respect also.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Thanks for the answer, I've been really frustrated over this. I have the 15.4 (1680x1050, which is why they'll have to prise this machine out of my cold dead hands), but that still leaves two options, 42X4626 and 42X4610. Any idea what the difference between them is?

The issue that I have is that the machine is in near-constant use, and so it's nigh-on impossible for me to take it all apart just to get the part number. Any idea off-hand where the part number lurks? If I only have to remove the touchpad and keyboard, I might be able to make time to do that.

In edit: Mine does indeed have the slot for the dock, and according to photos on ebay, that's the difference! 42X4610 it is, thanks so much! I'm also going to order a new full screw set from Ebay, as I know a few are missing...

Can you post your machine type? It's a 7 digit code that can be found on the bottom of the laptop, with this is easier to search for parts.

Then you need FRU# 42X4465

You can see the part # in the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual), which can be downloaded from here: click me!, check page 154 (the page printed in the manual, not the one your pdf reader tells you):

EDIT: One more thing, do you see another MTM close to the 8935-CTO?

Could you also go to the BIOS and check next to "System unit serial number" if you also see there 8935-CTO or another number?

I'm asking this because CTO stands for "Configure To Order", which are custom specifics configs.
