R61 - Battery / Power problem?

#1 Post by natgab » Sun Oct 12, 2014 12:03 pm

My R61 has been problem free up to about two weeks ago. The original battery went from just over an hour ( 100%) ) to less than 1 minute ( 3% )from one day to another. The battery light went from green to amber even when plugged in. At first I suspected the ($9.00 USD) generic power brick I had bought for it, since I had purchased the R61 w/o power supply. I ordered an authentic Lenovo power supply, but seems it was the battery and not the power supply. I still got the amber battery light / green power light and the 3% power on the desktop.

I have had the new power supply for about two weeks, using the R61 plugged in without problems. Today I plugged it in, so that I could use it in my living room. Now when I press the power button the lights go on for a second or two and then it turns off. The laptop was working perfect last night. I thought these machines could work w/o a battery plugged in?

Did you actually physically disconnect the battery? If not, try this. The laptops can work without a battery, but in some cases a defective battery can disrupt correct operation.

--I will try it, with both power supplies. At least this way I could use it while I wait for a battery. I replaced the clock battery when I bought it, that should not affect it should it?

EDIT: Tried both power supplies, plug in and green power and amber battery light up. I press power button and both lights go dark. Forgot to add, I don't get any error beeps. Intel MB, so its not a bad NVIDIA video chip.

Also found this: Disconnect battery & A/C, press power button 10 times, then hold for 30 seconds. Tried it, still nothing.
