PCMCIA chip? A and G series

#1 Post by cylscore » Tue Jan 20, 2015 12:39 pm

Hi

I am looking for a three spindle machine to run OS/2 on. I have not found a definitive answer to what PCMCIA controller these machines use. Is there someone who has one running that would look in Windows hardware manager or run a hardware detection program to get this information?

I am hoping that I can find a good A31 or G41.

I want to have some assurance that OS/2 has a driver available.

Thank you very much.

The Lenovo PSREF (Personal system reference) documents provide such information.

According to what I can see:

* A30 uses Ricoh R5C476-II.
* A31 uses Ricoh R5C552

* G40 uses Texas Instruments PCI-1410A
* G41 uses Texas Instruments PCI-1520
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Hi

Thank you VERY much for the quick and very useful reply. I was not aware of PSREF. I will look into that source of information.

I think there is good support for the Texas Instrument chips. I will check for Ricoh support.

Again, thank you very much.

Hi

Thank you very much for the welcome!! How time flies....;>) I joined when I got my T30. It has been happily running OS/2 since. I do still have a use for floppies and I am trying to get the convenience of a machine that has an optical drive and a floppy drive available simultaneously.

Thanks and Aloha
