R61 missing FRU label: s/n and type for penryn support?

#1 Post by thinkpadcollection » Wed Jan 21, 2015 11:09 pm

Hi, I looked through this forum for how to determining FRU part number from system board serial number and model type on this R61 since I replaced the system board with nvidia GPU built in. That said board is missing FRU label.

So I can know if this board supports penryn CPU.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection

Put in a T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500 and try to boot.
If it tells you've got a "thermal error", you have a Merom-based mobo.
HOWEVER, if somebody already applied Middleton's BIOS, it will NOT give this thermal error, even if it originally was a Merom mobo.
Even if it hasn't been done yet, I suggest to put in Middleton's BIOS:

I noticed this T8100/T8300 voltage range is same as 25W penryn version like P8400 which I do not mind the downclocking to 800 FSB instead of 1066 would work?

Cheers, Jason

Nope. None of the 1066MHz Penryns will work "out of the box".
