Thinkpad Z61t issue

#1 Post by FluffyBunny » Tue Nov 17, 2015 2:06 pm

So...I have this Thinkpad Z61t I love it...

Sadly, there's a wireless mouse USB receiver stuck in one of the front ports that I cannot remove. I was hoping that, maybe, the ports weren't soldered to the motherboard & then I could just switch them out, but alas, they are. I really would like to remove the USB receiver from the port without damaging either item.

Are there any hints or tips in removing the receiver without damaging the port?

Take the palmrest off.
You should then have some space between chassis and and the surroundings of the USB-port.
Maybe with the help of a small screwdriver or knife you might be able to push the receiver out.

This is not a Z61t issue...

Sounds like something you might do with tweezers. The laptop must be off, for sure. And disconnect the battery, just in case.

How did you get this receiver stuck there in the first place, and how do you plan to continue using the receiver, if it can get stuck so badly in a USB port?

Thank you, RealBlackStuff, I will try that.

I didn't know where else to put this, and I wasn't having much luck googling. I thought with the knowledge of the people on this forum they may have a better answer than I was finding in being able to remove the device & not break either of them.

And since it was a Z61t that it got stuck in, well, I thought this was the best place. If it's not, please guide me to the correct section to place this question in.

I've used the USB port on the Z61t multiple times for multiple USB devices. Beats me how this device became stuck. Also, the wireless mouse has been used on multiple computers and never had a problem.
