T60/61 fan in R60?

#1 Post by 28CarsLater » Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:19 am

My R60 gets awful hot after about 45 min of use. I was going to open her up, replace the fan/apply thermal paste, and see if I can find a whitelist BIOS for an N-card swap. I recall reading a comment on a frankenpad explaining the T6x fan was necessary because it cooled better. I was curious to know if this is true and if it could be fitted to an R60? Thanks in advance.

Does your R60 have Intel or ATi graphics? Better yet, what's the full 7-character model number of the system in question?

The R60 in question is Type 9462-7AU. I do not believe it has ATI graphics.

Following the MTM link at the top of each web-page:
R60 (9462-7AU) ex factory looked like:
T2400(1.83GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1024x768 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, IEEE 1394, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

ATI X1400 is the hottest running discrete graphics version!
Given its age, it could probably do with a proper heatsink/fan cleaning and thermal paste renewal (use AS5).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Ok I will clean what I have then as opposed to trying to replace it.

Thanks.
