Frankenstein R52 project.

#1 Post by thinkpadcollection » Fri Mar 04, 2016 8:13 pm

Bought R51 15" XGA LCD (intel only iGPU) as an platform basis to put ATI 9600 T42 motherboard in with goodies. But wanted to know about from what thinkpads that features this 15" IPS compatibility (swap out panels in R52 LCD housing.)?

Thanks and cheers, thinkpadcollection

All T4* and R5* displays are interchangeable, assuming the screen size is the same. However, you will also need an R5* series LCD cable that matches what ever screen resolution you have (ie. R50p UXGA cable for UXGA screen). You may also want to consider upgrading the inverter.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53

What's the reason for upgrading inverter?

If you use an XGA inverter with a UXGA or even SXGA+ display, the screen may be a bit dim.

Sounds like this is best to do complete LCD assembly swap with housing instead. This cost some.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection

The lid assembleys are not swappable like on T60/T61 14.1" units, only the screens are.
