a22m lcd screens compatable

#1 Post by theunholy » Wed Nov 16, 2016 11:43 am

Hey guys i got a A22m with a busted lcd screen, i was wondering if this model takes different lcd screen from similar models, or does it only take a22m screens?. I searched on ebay for scren but they are 30+ and the laptop usually goes for 40+, im looking to spend no more than 20$ for the screen since i already have the laptop and works like a champ, so i was wondering if other similar lcd screen will fir it since those are cheaper. Thank you.

Most 14.1" XGA screens from that period will work in there, such as those from a T20/T21/T22/T23, T30.
Don't forget that whomever ships the screen will also want some money to cover shipping cost.

Do NOT forget to double check the connector type on eBay as these people are not as professional and if you end up buying a 14.1" LCD for T4x you waste your money because they use 30-pin CCFL instead of 20-pin CCFL!!
As far as what I am aware of, A2x models are just like T4x/R5x models and unlike A3x models, the 14.1" and 15" uses a different casing while A3x just uses thicker, uglier LCD bezel for 14.1" (and of course different screen cable). In the case of A2x, the 12.1" SVGA and 14.1" XGA uses the same casing (but different screen bezel and screen cable), and the 15" versions uses the exact same casing other than screen cable.

If you still cannot find anything cheaper than $20 and if you have the SVGA or 15" XGA version, do some research and see if you can do a screen upgrade or not. Also don't forget the 14.1" and 15" XGA cables are different and uses 20pin vs. 30pin CCFL connector. If you upgrade, you need to buy a matching screen + cable as well as a new bezel in the case of 12.1" to 14.1".

One of the ways is to put your type number 2628-xxx or 2633-xxx in mtm or here if uou don't know how to use that if you did not do screen upgrades before

Mine only says 2628 on the back, unless there is a specific place to find the rest of the denomination.

edit: found it

Boot the machine up and immediately press F1 to go into BIOS.
Maybe you can still see enough on your screen to give us the first 7 characters from the System-unit serial-number.
Or plug in an external monitor and do the same.

Congrats that you found it. Unfortunately you cannot do much upgrading but this is a pretty common screen type so anything that is 14.1 XGA and works with T or A 2x or 3x should work just fine. Do not go with T4x/R5x LCD or newer as they use a different connector.

Btw the old A30 screen works but is yellowed and has some horizontal lines at the very top and the very bottom (they are formed from the very outside and goes inside as more lines appear after one year of my proper use after i found the A30 was just about to be trashed by my high school). So yes overall it displays things just not in good shape. I can give you that by shipping cost only if you want

Are you sure you can live with a YELLOWED display that has a few horizontal lines at top and bottom end? It should be working since the only reason I pulled it out was because I upgraded to UXGA. The shipping cost is not the most ideal one: USD$17 for Expedited (4 business days without guarantee) and USD$23 for express (guaranteed 2-3 business days). I will put it onto my A31 and test it one more time and PM you the pictures, it should display things with a good backlight with no pink or inconsistency but don't expect something to be perfect because as I told you, the condition is NOT the greatest. It is for you if you just want something that works.
While I go to check the current condition, can you PM me how bad the LCD is plus the pictures of the backside of your broken LCD and the plug on the display cable that connects to the display. I need to double check the compatibility.

Hmm i don't think the shipping is worth, don't get me wrong i am not being ungrateful i appreciate the gesture, 17$ for shipping is a bit too much, does Canada have something like flat rate 7 day shipping?

And no man i don't mind the screen not working properly. i just wanted something cheap to get it up and running, and then try to restore the laptop to the best possible shape.

I will post pictures of my screen regardless.

As for the LCD goes, I actually have 3 LCDs which have the exact same model number. You have 2 choices because the other LCD and that T23 which contains the LCD are 9.5/10 condition and I do NOT want to touch that.
1. The A30 one I talked about. It has horizontal lines and is yellowed but not too much yellowed. Minimal dead pixels if there are any. The problem now is that the LCD works 50% of the time while other times it behaves exactly like yours until you shake the LCD somehow that it goes back to normal functioning condition but still with the horizontal lines and yellowish white. NO GUARANTEE ABOUT HOW LONG IT CAN LAST!!
2. A LCD from my T22. It has no horizontal lines and works 100% of the time but you have tiny dead pixels everywhere that you can see in black which looks like tiny stars on the sky and it is more yellowed than the other one. (The yellowed result cannot be seen on camera) I recommend you taking this one as I have no idea how long the other one is going to last.
I need one of the two so that I can at least get my T22 which is in horrible condition to work. Overall the A30 one is better in terms of display quality but it may not last long.
The pictures are uploading, I will add in the pictures later

I would not mind the dead pixels on the t22 screen, but if you really need it then i would take the other screen, there is also the shipping cost isn't there a cheaper way to send it here? i don't care how long it takes, i am in no hurry to fix this laptop. And again thanks for helping out man i appreciate the help.
