Resolution Issues

#1 Post by Annorax » Wed Jun 15, 2005 9:40 am

I recently got a Thinkpad R51 with my job, as did several other people I know. The resolution on my laptop is stuck at a paltry 1024x768, while everyone elses Thinkpad is up much higher.

Is there any way I can fix mine so it can display higher resolution? I know for a fact and have seen it possible on other R51's.

The vast majority of R51s have XGA displays, including most of the 15" models.

Post your model number and we can tell you if your unit will natively support a higher (SXGA+) resolution.

From the System Info text file:

Machine type-Model: 1836BAU

After some research, I'm beginning to think increasing my resolution is simply not possible. Under Advanced and Monitor, it says the screen is a 1024x768 one, my friend's says his is 1400x1050 or something similar to that...[/img]

Yep, BAU has a 15" XGA display.

The BBU, BCU and BDU all have a 15" SXGA+ display.

Perhaps one of your work mates would be willing to swap, some folks have difficulty viewing the SXGA+ display.

I recommend trading with someone if you want higher resolution on your display. Changing the panel is possible, but a pain in the rear for most people.

I work in a software engineering company; everyone here loves hi resolution, myself included. I've looked around the whole place and I am pretty much the only one stuck with this inferior model. :(
