ThinkPad A31p 1080p DVI output

#1 Post by kfzhu1229 » Mon Jan 30, 2017 6:11 pm

Actually this sounds really crazy but I tried to hook my A31p to TV via DVI port on the Dock I (This TV does NOT have a VGA port and DVI to HDMI converters are widely available).
According to ThinkWiki the official maximum DVI output resolution is UXGA (1600*1200). But I tried 1920*1080 anyway.
The result is it works - but not without hiccups.
1. I got some calibration issues but that got addressed right away after me digging through the image settings on my TV
2. It REALLY struggles to keep up - even with FireGL V7800 (The best you can get to use the DVI port on dock I). It struggles to a point that it is laggy even when you just try to move the mouse cursor! But even with that 720p video still plays fine
3. 60hz refresh rate is missing. After me digging through the settings, the fastest refresh rate is 50hz
Also I don't know if by doing this will risk burning the GPU or something.
EDIT: The laggyness was only because of the driver problem as my A30p performed just fine with Radeon 9000 driver but then that driver does not work with my A31p as it has a SXGA+ LCD and that driver does not support SXGA+
Well yes this actually works fine but I think I will stick with my Flexview most of the time instead...

Can you tell us anything more details (i.e. manufacturer/model) about this DVI-to-HDMI converter?

Thanks for quick answer. Do you have - by any chance - the possibility to check whether this converter can operate a higher resolution? I'm looking for an converter which would allow me to connect my T601F over 2503 adv.dock to my 2560x1440 display panel.

I think as long as you have the DVI-D converter you are fine with that.
