Question on Thinkpad hard drives, need to know very soon...

#1 Post by SaberX » Fri Jun 17, 2005 7:24 pm

I need a new hard drive for my Thinkpad A21m.
I have a line on one from a T23 Thinkpad.BUT the guy says only IBM drives will fit thinkpad. He saysthat there is more pin's on the Thinkpad.
From my understanding there is just a standard 44pin's.Some older laptops had 50pin's but not very common.
I'm about 99% sure that the Thinkpads A,T,R model's ect are 44pin drives.
Only thing you have to look out for is the thickness of the drive. Some thinkpad only take a 9.5mm and some a 12.5mm.
This guy is selling a 48gig drive from a T23 for twice as much as what i can get a new 2.5" 60gig for.He says it's because IBM thinkpad's take more pins on their drives.
I think he's full of it.

I think he is full of it also. I have a R31 and it has had in it 4 different MFG's and 6 different drives because of growth and backup testing. The MFG's were IBM, Hitachi, Seagate and Toshibia. All worked like a charm. Height is a issue and as long as that is correct, you should have no problem.

Thanks,Thats what i thought also.
He's asking over $50.00 more for his 48gig than what i can get a new WD 60gig 5400rpm drive for.
Up here in Newfoundland , Canada used drives are hard to come by.
