Locating a G series laptop

#1 Post by NerdModeEngaged » Sun Jul 23, 2017 4:27 pm

Hi guys, I want to work on a rather cool project for my next laptop, I want to use one of intel's new Mini-SFX motherboards in a laptop, however i knew that i would just NEED that laptop to be a thinkpad, and i need a laptop to be very thick in order for the NH-L9i cooler to fit, now i plan to cram 8GB of DDR4 RAM into this beast to start with, and I would either go for a 7600T CPU or an AMD Raven Ridge APU if AMD are able to use this form factor, this would mean I would have one of, if not the most powerful thinkpads, I think that this would be bloody amazing, however I have run into an issue, i simply cannot source any G40/1 laptops anywhere, Would anybody mind helping me find one, and also could somebody give me some indication of price that i would have to pay for this laptop, Thanks

If you're willing to have it imported, they are fairly plentiful on this side of the pond... A quick search on eBay indicates about $50 for an untested G40. G41 is upwards of $75-$100.

I have two G40 and one G41 here in West Yorkshire, England (UK). I'll probably hang on to the G41 but the other two G40 I have spare and due to the number of Thinkpads I have, they will not likely get any use. They both have USA keyboards and internal floppy drives, and screen sizes are 15". I'll get them out to photograph and document if you like. I've no idea of price yet but it will be sensible. I've already posted info and photos of these on this forum if you check my posts, and some parts I have used from one G40 in the G41, e.g. a copper heatsink / fan, UK keyboard.

Well invest in a IBM Travel keyboard if you want to hook up the factory keyboard.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
