A22m internal display not working.

#1 Post by HiFiGuy » Sat Sep 09, 2017 3:30 pm

Hello!

I have recently acquired a 15" A22m from the dump (the MPN states its an A20m, but it says a22m on top of the keyboard).
I plugged it in, everything worked fine, etc etc.
When cleaning it out, this black insert on top of the keyboard bezel broke off. there was a spring inside it, and I lost both parts.
I have no idea what it is, but I know where it came from.
Now the internal display does not work, but the external display works fine (through VGA)
Also when booting, there is a black line that appears across the display. Refer to pictures.

Here is where the spring and insert came off of the motherboard:

Here is where it's located on the laptop:

Here is what the display looks like with the laptop OFF:

Here is what the display looks like with the laptop ON:

You can clearly see the black line.

I appreciate any help,

Thanks!

I'm not very familiar with the A22m machines (wait I think I have a box of A21p parts here somewhere), but could it be the lid switch that is missing? I guess a missing switch could cause the laptop to think the lid is always closed, switching the display off.
Collection = T430 - T500 - R400 - X300 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - R61 (15" SXGA+) - T60 - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P

I was thinking the same thing, and i could put a jumper to short something to trick into thinking it's open all the time. Although i am not very technical when it comes to these things, and not sure where'd I put the jumper
