R40-CTO how to determine specs

#1 Post by toddreg » Tue Nov 07, 2017 9:12 am

I dug out an old R40 I had gotten for my dad to use. I was going to update it and get it going again to give to someone else. it is a RTO which is a custom configuration. How can I determine the specifications of this machine?

Find the PSREF for your model (trwbook-291.pdf) and compare its R40 details with what you got.

Sure it does. I have a couple versions however in each version the R40 starts at page 7.

Link?

#6 Post by toddreg » Tue Nov 07, 2017 1:44 pm

Would you mind shooting me a link. I can't find it on whatever it is I am looking at. The search function does not turn the R40 up either. For that reason I think my search has led me to a different PSREF.

Thank you for your help and time.

PSREF will do you little good with a CTO system.

R40 came in two basic flavours: Pentium 4M and Pentium M. All you have to do is boot it into BIOS and see what CPU it sports. Graphic cards were ATi Radeon 7500s of varying VRAM size, but they all share the same driver. Wireless cards were Intel 2100B, IBM (Atheros chipped) a/b and Cisco "b" card. Lower-end machines had a 10/100 LAN while the higher-end models came with a Gigabit if I recall correctly, it's been quite a while since I've last played with one of those.

All 14" units were XGA, while some of the 15" systems were SXGA+. They all share the same batteries, fan/heatsink and keyboard. All of them will take 2GB of PC2100/2700 RAM.

That's what I recall off the top of my head. If you need anything else addressed, by all means ask in your next post.

Does this serial number help

Does the serial # help track down all the specs?

On a system that old, no.
