R61i - DVD drive issues

Hi,

I tried to update my R61i 8932 to windows 7 ultimate last week and have been facing one problem or the other. Now the latest one is my CDRW/DVDRW drive is not working. It was working with Windows XP. What ever CD/DVD I put the drive it just spins for a long time and then it is not able to read. While debugging I found that the DVD drive was able to read all the CDs and DVD's when I boot it in "Safe Mode with Networking" option.

I think that I need to update my driver. Tried searching in net , but couldn't find. Does any one knows the make of the DVD driver that came with this model of Thinkpad ? Current installed DVD driver version : 6.1.7601.17514

I don't know how to pull out the drive out. In device manager, I can see friendly name property as "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device". will that help ?

I googled and was able to pull out the drive finally the FRU P/N number is 39T2863.

HL-DT-ST = Hitachi-LG Data Storage, a joint venture between Hitachi and LG.

Check the R61i and R61 drivers at the above Drivers link.
That drive is over 10 years old and may be faulty.
Get another one.
