Will this CDRW work for my A21M ??

#1 Post by cjacek » Tue Jun 28, 2005 3:59 am

Hi,

I just got a great deal on a new-old-stock A21M 2628-GSU for $400. It came with a DVD though and I would like to have the option to get a CDRW to possibly "swap" with the DVD. I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

It's seems a very inexpensive way to "upgrade" to CDRW but it says something about needing a bezel & caddy ... Does that mean I won't be able to use the CDRW or ..... :?: Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Daniel

If you want to swap the two... this one should do:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

You could also go with a combo DVD/cdrw:

Note: I don't know the sellers... just did a search. Any Ultrabay 2000 drive should work. You really want it to come complete with bezel.

Thank you my friend! I won the first auction for US $33.50! I think that's pretty cheap! Can you recommend a "compatible" cd burning software ?

Thanks again!

Nero is good, it comes with drivers for a very broad range of drives. They offer a demo, I recommend you try before you buy. It was useful to me to do so when I had a hard time getting a newer ThinkPad drive to play nice with WinXP on an older TP. The price is reasonable.

Most any burning software should work although some people are partial to one or the other. Windows XP comes with limited burning capability built in. If you have the recovery partition or CDs you can get the IBM sotware by doing a recovery with the CDRW drive installed (saving data) but you will have to reinstall any additional software you have (you should also save the install directory for the DVD software).

Otherwise if you don't mind software thats a version older than the latest I get software at the link below. They have Nero and NTI CD Maker. I like their $3 flat shipping rate.
