My ThinkPad R61i

#1 Post by CrazyTPFan » Wed Oct 17, 2018 3:52 pm

I just purchased a ThinkPad R61i off of fleabay for $24 plus shipping. Not a bad deal at all. I plan to upgrade the ram, CPU, and display. I have the ram and display I just need to but a CPU. I'll update this thread when I get the laptop. I've been wanting one for the longest time and now I finally got one :D. going to put Middleton's BIOS on it to for the extra performance and speed. As for OS'es I'm going to use Windows 10. Can't wait 'till it arrives!

I have received the ThinkPad R61i about 2 days ago. I've been using it for a little while now and it's awesome! It looks as if it was refurbished because the keyboard has no shiny spots and the palmrest is in pristine condition. The performance is also great! I installed Debian Mate 9 with my SSD and the R61i runs it without a hitch. I also put Middleton's BIOS on it to improve performance. Overall, my R61i has been a perfect daily driver. The next thing I plan to do is to upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 Duo T9300.The T5750 isn't as bad as I thought it be. It is still capable of browsing the web perfectly and watching youtube at 720p60. Another reason I wanted this model because of its screen size. The 14.1 screen on my R400 is just to small for me. I will post pictures of the ThinkPad soon.

A small question, does your current R61i have problems running 1080p60 videos on YouTube? My old R61i used to do that, even with a X9100 clocked at 3.2GHz. I recall that it was running Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Service Pack 4 when I tried forcing it to run that.

I can't watch 1080p60 either. If I want to watch 1080p on it I have to watch it in 30fps.

For some reason it can't do this anymore. Couple of years ago - no problem, and for some time - impossible. I guess it's HTML5 :)
Too many thinkpads not enough time!
