Need advice to add more memory, currently 1GB, want 2GB.....

#1 Post by stingbandel » Sat Jul 02, 2005 1:07 pm

I have currently 1GB of memory for my Thinkpad A31p. Would it be helping the performance of my Thinkpad if I add 1 more stick to become 2GB?

The system is used for browsing and doing the .Net projects only mainly. sometimes to watch DVD and doing a little multimedia thing.

Please give me some advice as whether to add or not. If yes, what would be the best memory to get.

Thank you,

Darno

No, you really aren't doing anything very memory intensive it sounds like. Adding a second gigabyte would be overkill and unnecessary.

If your multimedia projects include 200mb images with multiple layers then maybe, but to be honest most people for just about any multimedia work they do are fine with a 1gb for now. You could always just add another 512mb of RAM if you really find yourself running out of RAM, but how often does that happen?

Monitor your RAM usage and see how it goes, I doubt you have a need that justifies spending at least $100 to upgrade the ram.

Very good advice. If you plan to keep the machine a couple years and you envision your usage changing, might be worthwhile to get the ram now since it's so cheap. However, I agree, it won't materially impact what you said you are using the machine for now.
