BackLight problems on Thinkpad R40 2681-CU1

#1 Post by vk60402 » Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:15 pm

Hi All,

I have a question/problem. My TP is about 2 years old with warranty expiring in Oct. of this year.

All was great with my computer, except yesterday I noticed that the backlight on my TP screen would go off for no reason. It went off on me three times already.

The weird thing is, the ligth comes back of I put my TP in standby mode and back from standby.

If I shut off the thinpad, it will work fine also.

I know that the backlight goes out, because I am able to see my screen if my area is pretty well lit.

What could be the problem?

I called IBM support and they want me to send it in, but I'm afraid that nothing will be done, because the problem is not easily duplicated. My TP was on with no problems for six hours now, but the backlight did go off twice 30 mins before that.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
VK

At least there will be a record of it going in for servive for that problem before. That way if the problem reoccurs when you get it back and it is out of warranty they may be willing to offer to six it for you.

If I remember right (I mean law, which supercedes lawyer-label policy), as long as you make the initial claim during the warranty period, it is covered indefinitely if it recurs (within reason).

I would upgrade the warranty to 1-yr., on-site (only $49) and then make the complaint. (Of course, I just re-read your post - this doesn't apply to you.) Make the call and get a case number. IBM seems predisposed to "closing" unresolved issues.
