z61m price and ATI reliability?

#1 Post by tulgd » Tue May 12, 2020 5:05 am

Hi,
A local shop has a z61m with titanium lid and 1680x1050 screen for 35 GBP. Is this a reasonable price? I am aware of the HW limitations of this generation.
What concerns me the most is the ATI graphics card it has judging by the sticker - most likely x1300 or x1400. Are V5200 common on these?. I already had a HP nc6400 die because of a x1300/x1400 failure perhaps due to the VRAM corruption issue. What to expect for the reliability of the z61m?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

AFAIK, V5200 was never an option for the Z61m. You're looking at X1300/X1400 as you've correctly presumed. If it's in good shape 35 quid doesn't sound bad at all.

Reliability...these systems are pushing 13-14 years of age at this point. Anything and everything can fail at this point.
