Overcome R40's UDMA/33 limitation when using SSD?
Overcome R40's UDMA/33 limitation when using SSD?
I've installed Ableconn mSATA to PATA adapter and Kingston SSD in my R40. But despite the fact that both the chipset and the drive support UDMA/100 mode, the drive is operating at UDMA/33 speeds only... which is sad
I have researched this topic, and some people suggest that the problem can be solved by grounding the 34th pin on the PATA connector. This would tell the motherboard that the drive is indeed capable of UDMA/100. Unfortunately, that didn't help. It looks like in R40 the 34th pin on the internal connector is simply not connected to the I/O Controller Hub. At least this is the conclusion I came to...
With all that in mind I ask: has anyone found a way to overcome this stupid speed limitation?

Not that I'm aware of.

Re: Overcome R40's UDMA/33 limitation when using SSD?
Thanks a lot. I will try to dig a little more into this.
So far, I see two possible solutions: (1) using a thin wire to connect the 34th pin on the internal PATA connector to where it should go on the I/O Controller Hub (some GPIO); (2) modifying the BIOS. Both seem terrifyingly complicated.
I will update this thread if I have any success.

Did you make progress?
Re: Overcome R40's UDMA/33 limitation when using SSD?
No, unfortunately not. Modding the BIOS is too complicated for me.

I think I have seen a successfull attempt on the german forum. Try to take a glimpse over there. I will also try to dig it out a bit.
