Unkown Device on R61 under Win7

#1 Post by TwigletZone » Mon Feb 15, 2021 7:57 am

Hi all, this is my third post here so far and I'm hoping some one can throw some light on a small issue I have with Win7 on my R61's;

As per the image, I have two listing in Device Manager that are "unkown", does any one know what they are or point me at what driver to install? thanks, I gather it's probably a long shot, but not sure where else to ask or find out, thanks.

Ok, it seem the link thing doesnt work, image is under 50K, this is the link; https://imgur.com/s3TxMW5

Go to the details tab inside the device properties in Device Manager, then select "Hardware IDs" from the dropdown menu. Google the vid_xxxx and pid_xxxx numbers to get you what it is.

For example, based on your photo, ven_1180 dev_0592 is a Ricoh memory stick controller. Use the drivers found here: https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... m/R61.html

Hi, thank you for pointing me in the right direction, I have done a clean install of Win7 and have download and installed all appropriate drivers from the Lenovo site mentioned, including the "Smart Card Reader". I'm guessing the device in question is the same thing and needs a Win7 version of the '4 in 1 Card reader' driver which there appears to be none. Looking briefly around the internet it appears to be mentioned a number of times from different laptop vendors after a Win7 clean install.

So I'm guessing there is no solution and its there to stay in the list. (For info the smartcard reader works fine).

Cheers for taking time any how :)

Sometimes (as long as you are certain the driver is for the hardware in question) you can force Windows 7 to use an XP or 2000 driver successfully. You can try that to see if the device starts with that driver as well.

There are card reader drivers in the drivers archive.
