R51 wireless upgradeable - BUT WHAT DO I NEED?

#1 Post by dukey » Fri Jul 15, 2005 4:59 am

Hi everyone, so pleased i found this forum.

I am new here and have searched the forums for this topic before but couldnt really find anything that helped me a great deal; therefore, apologies if this topic has come up previously

I have just brought a R51 (2889 CG6) but have since discovered that it is "wireless upgradeable" and as my work has just installed wireless networks, i thought i would jump on board.

My question is, what do i need to get started? I get that i need a wireless card, but which one is best? Do i need to buy an IBM one or can i get away with a non-IBM card, which seem to be cheaper?

Finally, is the card the only thing that i need?

Thanks in advance.

You'll need a WiFi mini-PCI card and you're best off to use one of the IBM offerings, either the Atheros based or Intel based card.

Here's how to install it: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-53859

If you're in the EU, then the answer is yes.
