Replacing R60 LCD

#1 Post by gordonComstock » Thu May 12, 2022 6:38 am

Thanks for reading and considering helping.

The screen on my R60 has loads of lines red lines that continue to increase. Now it's impossible to read from it.

I think I need to replace the LCD, and would like to replace the LCD.

I have looked into this thread where viewtopic.php?t=40808

But I do still have a question: what is the optimum possible replacement. By 'optimum' I mean an LCD from another Thinkpad that will (1) work natively (2) has best screen resolution and features. For example, I read from the link above that IPS screens would have such features (2) but cannot determine from which T60 Thinkpad I can get such to install on my R60. Similarly, how best to identify a T60 that has an IPS screen, considering this, also from the link above: "The regular 14" models (both XGA or SXGA+ resolutions), the regular 15" XGA models and the widescreen T60/T60p (both WXGA or WSXGA+ resolutions) laptops DO NOT come with an IPS LCDs. They come with LCDs made with a different technology called TN"

Thank you very much again, for your help.

1. Only 15.0 non-widescreen T60 and T60p models have IPS screen options.

2. There aren't any widescreen versions of the R60, so it's either 14.1" or 15.0" for you.

3. If your R60 doesn't have a 15.0 inch screen, no IPS for you. Simple as that.

You don't even need to look for a whole T60/T60p, you only need to search using the model number of the IPS screens themselves. Taken from https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display

IPS 15.0" 1400x1050
LP150E05-A2K1
HV150P01-100

IPS 15.0" 1600x1200
N150U3-L01
HV150UX1-100
HV150UX1-102

Or you can go to that Thinkwiki page, and use the browser's Find function; use the keyword "T60" or "R60"
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
