Charge pin replacement For Thinkpad G40?

#1 Post by Gonzaleitor » Thu Nov 24, 2022 11:35 am

Si, i found a cheap G40 in marketplace (around 15 dollars) but the thing is that the Jack is kind Of Unique and I don't have something similar to that 4pin Jack. That's why i tought Of replacing it with another that is similar to the power supplies that i have. What do you think? Is it worth it?
Is there any compatible Jack that has the same capabilities but with different shape?

According to the picture below, there are only 2 connections: 2x +, 2x -.

If you get a DC-in socket from e.g. a T60/T61, such as this: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/175106263405
You can connect the G40 connector + cables to the red T60 cables and the G40 - cables to the T60 black cables.
Ignore the blue cable.
Then get any old T60/T61 era charger, cut of its DC-cable and connect it similar to above to your G40 charger.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thanks.
The power socket is connected via that Jack? Is not soldered to the motherboard?
Would it work if i connect the power supply directly to the t60 Jack? I mean, like if the Jack was normally installed
