T20 screen blanking
T20 screen blanking
Hi there,
I think the cable to the my T20 screen is giving up the ghost (and that's not Nortons Ghost.)
Occasionally, when it boots, the screen is total black; the back light is not on. Push or pull the screen to a different position and it all works fine. I figure that the cable probably needs replacing.
Is this likely to be the case and if so, is it easy it to get a new cable and is replacing it DIY job?
Many thanks in advance,
Rex

Take care, take it easy and don't forget to smell the flowers!
I replaced the complete top on a 600E, and removing and replacing this part is not too difficult. As far as removing the cable from the LCD, I can't say, but you do have to take the display cover apart. You should be able to order the cable from IBM/Lenovo, or you could do a search on Google with the part number, to see if any other suppliers show up.
The Hardware Maintenance Manual has a diagram that shows how the parts go together, and it has a sort of step-by-step description of how to disassemble the laptop. Part numbers are also listed in this publication. You can download the Hardware Maintenance Manual by starting at the following link. But first, remove your keyboard and be sure it is seated 100% to the system board. They come a little loose sometimes (common).

hallo,
i seem to have the same trouble: the screen starts blank, and push'n'pull technique seems to make, even tho it gets worse each day and sometimes i have to battle with it for tens of minutes...and it's so frustrating...
I tried a couple of times to reseat the lcd cables, but had no luck.
What should i try next?
thanks in advance

replace the LCD cable, and perhaps you might need a new inverter cardpierlo wrote:any ideas? please i'm still stuck!

ok guys i'm still stuck. but i've managed to talk to a guy who repairs thinkpads for work, and he's been so kind to tell me a couple of tricks that might help some of us having this problem. It didn't work for me, but at lease i'm near to be sure that the LCD cable is the real cause.
Anyway these are 2 things you might want to check:
1) Reaseat the LCD Panel 's rear cable , and tape it to the screen so that it won't move.
2) Try to scratch a bit the metal surface of the grounding between the inverter card and the central screw under the LCD front bezel. It might be oxidated and scratching/cleaning could fix that.
Hope this might be useful to somebody.
Cheers!
