Hi All,
I have a R40 thinkpad with the system board is diagnosed to be faulty and need replacement. The quotation I received from IBM is $1200 (AU).
This is ridiculously high and I think I better off buy a brand new laptop.
I am thinking about just purchase a cheap R50e. Then, replace the Celeron M CPU with my original Pentium M (Banias) 1.4 processor. Can anyone here can confirm if the R50e system board can support my old Pentium M processor (Banias) from the R40. (I would expect my old Pentium M processor should be better the newer Celeron M processor)
Apart from CPU, I am thinking about moving my RAM and harddrive (80Gb) from my old machine to the R50e as well. I think all these should be compatible. The only thing I am not sure is the CPU.
Anthony
