DVD Multiburner (Matshita UJ-811) Problem

since a couple of weeks i'm having a lot of trouble with my ibm multiburner. it is hard to read cds and dvd. but the worst part is, i can't write any media type. no cds, no dvds. not under linux and not under windows... i tried different blank cds and dvds, the samt result. the drive starts the burning process, but stops after a couple of seconds. target error, this is all i get. this weekend, i tried to install windows and linux again. it took me 2 hours for windows and even longer for linux. reason: after a few minutes i had to open the drive take the cd out and put it back in, because i always got the error message that the multiburner is not able to read the cd...

i will call ibm tomorrow and find out what to do. am i the only one with that kind of problem?

Hi Jens,

I've had a lot of problems with my Multiburner too. It is erratic -- it reads some CDs adn DVDs but not others, even if they are the same time (i.e. the minus type). I haven't tried to write any disks yet.

alright, i called ibm today. they sending me another drive!!! how cool is that? good service! hopefully this multiburner will last longer. it has to! i will send the broken drive back after i installed the new one.
