Exceptionally sluggish performance

#1 Post by csilveria » Mon Aug 22, 2005 10:31 am

I have the ThinkPad R51 1836 BDU. When I boot up the sequence takes 5 to 8 minutes and my CPU maxed out also when I browse to a file or attempt to save a file (browsing to any location local or network) it can take as much as 10 seconds for the window to respond. I don't have any trojans or viruses. I have 62 processes running but can't seem to isolate any one particular CPU hog other than SpuSubtract.

Any suggestions as to what I should check next?

Thanks, Carla

What is SpuSubtract, and how much CPU does it consume?

What is your memory useage?

How is the HD? Perhaps it is having a large number of re-reads due to impending failure?

We need more detials as to the system. If you are running XP on 32MB ram and a 4,200 rpm drive on battery wit hteh CPU set to the lowest speeds, that would do it. More info please for better suggestions to help.

Hi Bob,

I am running XP2002 SP2. It's an Intel Pentium 1500 MHz, 1.5GHz and 768 mb RAM. SpySubtract is a spyware blocker. I have seen it consume 96% of the CPU but it is swapped out. We're running eTrust Antivirus V7.0.7.7. The HD seems to check out fine.

Hi Bob,

Sorry about the postings. The server returned a debug notice so I didn't know that it had posted.
