Help me diagnose A22m screen problem

#1 Post by Deb Suran » Sat Aug 27, 2005 6:54 pm

My middle goddaughter just exchanged her A22m for an A31, and now, as usual, I need to fix the one that's been turned in before I can pass it along.

Here's the issue, which has been intermittent. Sometimes the screen is very dark, but you can still see what's on it, barely. You can turn off the screen with Fn F3, and then it's completely dark. It might be dark when you turn it on (so it doesn't seem to be a software issue), or it can be normal until after it boots up and gets to the main Windows screen. Or she could use it all day without a problem.

I need to know what to fix, if it can be fixed. Is this a mobo problem? Doesn't seem to be, as it works properly with an external monitor. An LCD problem? Backlight? Ribbon cable?

Thanks for your assistance.

I remembered the old "press all around the edge of the LCD" trick, did that and turned it on, no problems so far. Could it have been that simple?

Possibly - the inverter for the backlight on my T20 is under the bottom right screen bezel, and it might just have been a loose connection.

If it come back, it's probably the LCD cable.

Just to follow up in case anyone else experiences a simlar issue. The problem did recur, I had a busted A22 I'd bought for its working MOBO, it happened to come with a screen inverter. The working inverter came out of a 14" screen unit but was the same form factor as the 15" inverter. So I swapped the working inverter in, and that fixed the problem.
