Inserting Slimline drives into Ultrabay
Inserting Slimline drives into Ultrabay
Hi all,
I could already learn a lot in this forum. It's great.
Now I'd like to post a new topic on my own because I have not found a satisfying answer using the search-function.
Soon I will own a TP R40 with an UltrabayPlus I think.
AFAIK it will be equipped with a DVD-ROM and therefore I would like to change it to a DVD/CD-RW.
My question is if I can remove the frame from the available drive, take any other Slimline drive and attach the frame to it again so that it will fit in my UltrabayPlus.
I suppose I do not need to buy a drive that is already UltrabayPlus conform (IBM drives), do I?
Can all Slimline drives fit into the corresponding Ultrabay if a suitable frame is attached?
If I take this, do you think a Slimline drive of my choice will then fit into the UltrabayPlus?

Sorry for the german eBay link, but I think you know what I mean.
Thank you for your help.

You should be able take a standard notebook drive (12.7mm thick), use the frame (side rails/back connector) and use it in the Ultrabay.
I have done so with a NEC ND6500 dvd burner and used it on a T23 (Ultrabay 2000). Do a search for NEC 6500. You will see several threads with people using a similar drive on their A/T2x/T30 series laptops. It should also work with the R series.
