A20M cpu swap celeron->p3

#1 Post by BeemerBiker » Tue Aug 30, 2005 2:20 pm

I have a couple of A20M, one is P3 the other celeron, both run at 500 and have the same bios version. Neither bios shows any speedstep setting. The P3 seems to be all around better than the celeron. Just swapping out the drive and rebooting with the other drive the P3 is clearly bettery.

I can get a 700 speedstep p3 on ebay cheap. I read where it will only run at 500. That is o.k. as long as it gives the same performance and power savings as the genuine 500 p3 on my other notebook.

Anyone know of any problems I should be aware of?

I read here that a wire mod can be used to change socket 370 p3 parameters such as voltage

Is there anything similar to this for mobile P3 like the speed step?

..thanks in advance..

Installed 700mhz upga-2 ,Pentium 3 for $15. It booted at 550. System seems much more responsive and seems to be running cooler. When I pulled out the old 500 celeron noticed that the heat sink compound had hardened into a brittle rubber like materal. Put in new silicon HSC. Maybe that was causing the celeron to run much hotter?

Anyway, am pleased. This is one of the few system I put back together that had no left over screws.
