R51 memory upgrade

#1 Post by Bara » Sat Sep 03, 2005 5:10 am

I've got R51 month ago and now I decided to buy extra memory. I have model with 256MB of RAM installed. I've heard that it would be best that new modul is from same manufacturer like one on the board. Is that true? And, would it be ok to have 256 + 512 configuration? thx

I have an R50e, and I'm using the 256+512 configuration after almost immediately regretting being a cheapskate on the initial purchase. I think the only reasoning for keeping them even is anal-retentiveness.

I think you might mean the speed of the memory needs to be the same.

we have a new R51 that I ordered with 512 MB in addition to the 256 MB standard RAM. Works flawlessly.
With Win XP you need that as the R51 (depending on the model) eats some of the standard RAM for video use, so you'll be left with up to 64 MB less of it. Popping in the 512 extra RAM neatly solves that.

Is the 256 embedded or is there a hidden RAM slot somewhere? For example, on an HP zt3000 the 2nd RAM slot is under the keyboard and can be accessed with just a little work. Anyone know on the R51?

I've had my R51 for a few months and I've tried every memory combination with it since we have a lot of spare RAM, and I keep upgrading the RAM. No problems whatsoever with any RAM combination from any manufacturer.

Currently I have a single 1 GB module which I'll be upgrading to 2 GB soon.
