R50e Flimsiness?

#1 Post by bhtooefr » Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:27 pm

Right now, I'm setting up an R50e for a friend (not the same as the one in my last thread here). 1842-SLU, upgraded to 768MB RAM at the factory (it was free).

Anyway, the moment I pulled it out of the box, I thought, "man, that's flimsy."

So, I feel it. It flexes about 1/8" around the optical drive. And, about 1/16" everywhere else (it's a 100% plastic body, and it's THIN plastic.)

Is this at all normal? If so, I'm going to stop recommending the R series. If not, this one WORKS OK, so no RMA here.

It JUST arrived today, and it was shipped 9/9, so it's either an August or September Lenovo model (it says Lenovo on the bottom).

I have a few R50e and R51/R52's and they have the same body and same material. The R50e flexes at the optical drive area since it doesn't have the Ultrabay, but it uses an Ultrabay drive so there's empty space around the drive for the non-existant eject mechanism...

Funny, because this R50e had parts of the eject mechanism, as well...

Eject the drive tray, hold the tab next to the drive, and pull out on the drive. It comes right out...
