How soon do you think we'll see a real review?

#1 Post by Trip » Fri Sep 23, 2005 9:47 pm

I feel like I'm a minority among all of the forum members here who are predicting the end of the world now that there's a widescreen ThinkPad, but I'm really excited about the Z60t! I'm really considering getting one, as I like the 14" WS form factor and I can actually get the crappy student discount that my school offers.

Buuut... I'm definitely not going to buy something I know so little about, especially given the amount of time it would take to actually get one in my hands. So, when do you think that we'll be able to see a real, thorough review of a Z60t?

My Z60t arrives tomorrow :D I don't know when the full review will be posted (at the time in my sig), but I will be working on it ASAP. Being a full-time college student with part-time jobs AND being a senior editor makes things kinda hectic......

Well, I wait with bated breath!

My T42 just made it back to Lenovo, so I'm hoping to place an order for someting pretty soon.

Happy reviewing! :D

I'm surprised there is no review on Cnet, Mobile Magazine or Laptop Magazine yet or even a "first take" on line. I thought usually when a computer company releases a new product they provide these magazines review samples to create some buzz.

You're correct, usually there are review samples and the big dogs get 'em first. But this time there was a delay in getting review units in stock to my understanding. Mine was supposed to be here yesterday, but I'm assuming it was delayed in being shipped out and hopefully it will arrive today :D

Take a look at notebookreview.com

2 starter reviews that have been out for a while. The first ones are usually done by the admin there, then forum members can submit reviews as well. Much more "real" than a review at cnet or something.

Blech, I don't see a whole lot more value in the Notebookreview ones than CNET/PCMag. I think CNET/PCMag are utterly superficial, but the quality of Notebookreview is less than impressive ;)

What would you enjoy seeing then? I am going to be doing another one if I get the z60m, so maybe give me what you expect in the review and I will include it.

P.S. I can take high res closeups of screwholes if you want

You haven't been keeping up. fbrdphreak doesn't read reviews, he writes them. See the link at the bottom of his last post.

Ahh, so in other words it is another reviewer site that is slamming all but his own? Any review from a different perspective from the rest is always a good thing.

Not at all.

The fact of the matter is that 90% of all the reviews on notebookreview have poor writing, even poorer pictures, limited benchmarks, and (from my perspective) little value to a person looking to purchase a notebook.

The articles by the admins are better, but I'm still not impressed by them.

There are many good laptop reviews out there; CNET, PCMag, & Notebookreview aren't on my list of those ;)

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong

I agree here, most review-sites like CNET, PCMag, Notebookreview, Trustedreviews, and so on... aren't doing much valuable reviews at all. Most articles you can read in reviews on those sites are pretty meaningless, as are most posted synthetic benchmarks there.

Most benchmarks for themselves and vague verbal statements about TFT-panels, noise-levels and working temperatures don't say much if they aren't approved via exact measurements. - From good review-sites and notebook tests etc. I would also expect some common method/procedure of measurable quantities, like technical TFT luminance and wideviewing angle measurements, temp and noise measurements etc.

All in all there are just a few notebook sites and magazines which perform some more meaningful reviews/tests by themselve and thus don't just post blue-eyed datas from the vendors marketing data sheets.
